The Must-Dos

You know exactly what everyone else is eating today. The soft foods for dad, the snacks in the backpack, the thing mom will actually eat. Your own lunch is whatever you found in your coat pocket at 2pm.

The good news: this is the easiest fix on the caregiving list. No forms, no phone calls, just a few minutes and a plate. And since it's National Sandwich Month, consider a sandwich.

Last word

Feeding yourself won't fix the hard parts of caregiving. But it might be the one thing today that's fully yours, that no one else has to approve or schedule for you. You're allowed this. You can hold everyone else together and still take ten minutes for yourself.

Now that you've got a minute, make yourself a sandwich.

The Quick Stack (~5 min)

Bread, deli turkey or ham, a slice of cheese, a swipe of mayo or mustard, and whatever crunch you've got (lettuce, tomato, pickle). Zero cooking, just assembly.

The Melty Middle (~7 min)

Grilled cheese, upgraded. Butter the outside, pile in two cheeses, and add one thing if you have it: sliced tomato, a handful of spinach, or leftover ham. Hot, comforting, mostly hands-off.

The Pantry Tuna Melt (~8 min)

Canned tuna and mayo on toast with cheese on top, melted a minute under the broiler or in a pan. All shelf-stable, for the day the fridge is bare.
