We did a nanny share for our first kid, and overall it was a great experience and the kiddos remain best friends to this day. It was worth it, but it can take a lot of work to make sure you're setting the nanny share up for success. First of all, the families should be extremely aligned with their expectations regarding sleep strategies, schedules, discipline, feeding, and so on. For instance, if one family doesn't want any sleep training, but the other does, it just creates a weird dynamic where the nanny has to maintain different approaches and schedules for different kids, and over time that is just not sustainable. Another thing that was tricky is figuring out our own illness policy -- when one kid has a runny nose, can they still come to the nanny share? When can they return after being ill? You need to get pretty specific in your agreement, since all of these situations will come up eventually! But over time, we learned more and also became more experienced as parents and employers, so we kept the lines of communication open and adjusted things as needed.
