I find that toddlers and older adults often have pretty similar food preferences, at least in my family! So for big family meals we stick to the basics like pasta (you choose your sauce), steak and potatoes, salmon and rice, etc. Then I'll make a more interesting salad or side dish, which makes the meal more interesting for me but I don't really care if my dad or toddler won't touch it. More for me, haha :)

Also go easy on yourself! You can't please everyone all the time. In my household I try to get 3 out of 4 people to like a meal and rotate who is in the dislike camp. It helps to bring everyone into the constraints and all feel like we're working on it together. There seems to be a little more empathy for the cook :)
