I visited several assisted living communities before my mom needed it (well, before she would go to one!). I liked in my area and toured and found out about wait lists ahead of time because in my mom's situation, since she lived far away and needed to move here and THEN moved to assisted living after an emergency type health situation, I was able to take my time and look and know some things ahead of time. I'm glad I did that because then I could just look at a couple when she was in the hospital and rehab and I had to choose quickly. I'll also add that the case manager at rehab was very helpful.
