It's very difficult to change a parent's food choices if you are not preparing their food -- which is not realistic to do very often unless they live with you. Over time I actually backed off from these conversations (usually about sugar or skipping meals) with my dad because it wasn't changing his behavior and just created more tension in our relationship. I had to try and see it from his perspective and show a little more grace and acceptance, rather than thinking I could change him.
